The purpose of this lesson was to play around with editing tools such the Liquify tool to alter the celebrities chosen characteristics.
The purpose of this assignment was to edit and create backgrounds by using tools such as Liquefy, Pinch and Taffy tool.
This project focused on using the Eyedropper Tool to select a portion of her skin so that when I painted over her wrinkles, the skin tone matched itelf.

This project was mainly focused on experimenting with tools that have been previously taught thus far. I played around with different amounts of opacity's, learned the importance of zooming in and using a thin brush to draw features such as the eye-brows and eye-lashes, and learned how the smudge tool can create a neat effect of a wrinkled shirt.
CONTRAST EXAMPLES:
1. The Birds: The picture of the birds is an example of contrast because the birds on the left side stand out because they are facing the light source so they are highlighted and the background behind them is black. The birds on the left side are in front of a white background and standout because they are dark from being in the shadows.
2. Egyptian Building: The Egyptian Building is an example of contrast because in areas of detail, it appears darker, and in areas of no detail it is lighter. Because of this difference shown, the contrast between the light and the dark, the details stand out.
3. The Leaf: The Leaf is an an example of two different types of contrast, color and focus contrast. Since the entire background and foreground is blue, and the subject of the piece is green, the eye is immediately drawn to the leaf because of the contrast. The other type of contrast in this piece is the amount of focus shown, by making the leaf in focus, and the background is out of focus, the contrast shows that the leaf is the subject of the piece.
4. The City Street: This piece is an example of contrast because of the contrasting colors chosen for opposite side of the piece. On the left side, warm colors light up the trees and pathway, but on the right side cool colors are used to depict the lake and sky.

CONTRAST WITH BACKGROUNDS PROJECT: For this project I chose the Times Square background, and added my self in a jogging/power walking position. I made a copy of the background layer, sharpened by selecting Enhance> Auto Contrast, and then went under Enhance> Adjust Color> Adjust Hue/Saturation>Hue and tinted the background slightly red. Then I edited myself by clicking Enhance> Adjust Color> Adjust Hue/ Saturation>Lightness and made myself the darkest shade available; black. The contrast of this picture is the detailed background vs. a 2-dimensional, monochromatic foreground; and the size of me contrasts with the size of the other people depicted in Times Square.
The Pillars: The architecture of whichever building this is is an example of repetition because the same style pillar is placed the same distance from each other same style pillar. By repeating the object, and by repeating the same distance between the same objects there is repetition.
The Magazine: The magazine cover is an example of repetition of font and layout of words because the words outlined in red the same font, style, and are placed in the same column on the cover; and the text outlined in blue has the same font style, size, and placement on the cover. In addition, the same colors are repeated throughout the piece; blue, black, red, and yellow; which adds unity to the cover.
The Roof: The scene depicting the roof is an example of repetition because the same triangular shape is repeated in different directions which adds repetition and unity to the piece.
The Dogs: The dog painting is an example of repetition because the same symbol is repeated using colors of similarity.

Repetition Project:
As a student, I constantly hear about "making it into college". It is as if students shouldn't enjoy their high school years year anymore because they are so focused on getting accepted into a college. The motif behind this piece is how I feel that I won't be able get it all in to make it into college.
Within this piece, I have a repetition of two specific shades of font color, a deep navy and a rustic red. I chose the famous pointing Uncle Sam because I feel like going to college has become an essential element to our American culture. Within this piece there is repetition of the alignment, under the 'Requirements', the alignment is to the left, but above both speakers, the alignment is centered. The significance of the inverse of colors between the quotes is to show opposing ideas.

Alignment Pre-project:
1. Hello & Welcome- This is an example of alignment because the text is aligned evenly at the bottom left side of the picture.
2. Circular Design- This is an example of alignment because the various symbols in this work are aligned to from a circular pattern.

Alignment Project:
For this project, I chose to make a movie cover for the "The Book Thief". The significance of the colors chosen for this poster; the red, black and white, is that Death, who is the narrator, associated Liesel, the main character, these colors because of certain events in the book. So by using these colors, the movie poster alludes to what is to come.
The significance of the cloaked figure is to represent Death, and how he is omnipotent, but yet we do no know what he looks like. Therefore it makes sense that his face is undecipherable. In addition, in the opening of the novel, Death states, "Come, I'll tell you a story" in the prologue, which sets the opening and intrigue for the novel, and in this case, the movie.

Proximity Pre-Project:
The Dog: I chose this because by grouping the yellow circles together, its frames the negative space that is speckled to represent the Dalmatian.
The Business Cards: This is an example of proximity because the ways of contact to this designer are grouped together, which tells the viewer that they are related. In addition, by highlighting certain elements with black, the artist calls attention to those elements; and by using the highlighting function, it serves to make the highlighted words headers.

Proximity Project:
By placing the contact information close together, the viewers eye would group that information together. This is important so that anyone that reads this invite could easily understand the details of the party. In addition, by changing the alignment and placement of the text, the viewer can separate the three sections of information; that they are invited, what they are invited to, and the details of what they have been invited to.

Unit 4 Project:
For this project, I experimented with various type faces and specifically the Horizontal Type Mask Tool.

Typography Project
Master the Art of Reading Project
I incorporated books, and made them appear at the spines of the buildings. I hand-wrote "Master the Art of Reading" in calligraphy and scanned it into this piece. I changed the color of the text to reflect some of the colors already in this piece, and I beveled and added a shadow to the test so that it would be more legible.
